Derek Lee, B.R.I.
Abaco District Managing Broker
H.G. Christie Ltd.

Derek Lee, Abaco District Managing Broker, has long roots in North America, and an undying passion for Abaco.

With thirty-five years of rich business experience, selfless community work, and an obvious great love of life in general, Derek is a well-respected and valuable member of the HGChristie team.

A direct descendant of 1620 Mayflower arrival Stephen Hopkins, Derek was born in Boston MA, receiving his education in Greenwich, Connecticut and Dartmouth College, New Hampshire.

Derek's boyhood memories start with the family home acquired on Man-O-War Cay, Abaco in 1946, and long summers during high school and college spent working in William H. Albury’s Boatyard.

Derek's early business career was as vice-president of sales, marketing and operations for Lee/Jofa Inc, a fine decorative textile firm and fourth generation family business.

In 1986, after many years of living in two worlds, Derek moved his family to Abaco permanently, where he was employed by several local companies in sales and management positions.

Then soon after joining the HG Christie team in 1996, Derek began to run up a notable string of firsts.

A member of one of the first licensing courses for realtors in the Bahamas, he was instrumental in establishing the Abaco Chapter of the Bahamas Real Estate Association in 2002. Derek was elected as the Chapter's first Chairman, then went on to serve on the national BREA Board of Directors. He still holds the Abaco Chapter Chair.

Derek is the first broker in Abaco to offer full service brokerage, as witnessed by presentations at mid-night and at five o’clock in the morning!

Very much involved with community service, Derek gave twenty-five years of service with the American Red Cross. For thirteen years, he was a volunteer Special Officer and Emergency Medical Technician with the Greenwich Police Department in Connecticut. He has since served in several volunteer positions, notably as Special Assistant to the Senior Abaco Island Administrator, Chief District Councillors and Town Committee Chairmen in Abaco.

Derek and wife Margot, also an HGChristie estate agent in Abaco, will soon be celebrating 35 years of marriage. The Lees reside in Man-O-War Cay on the same property that Derek came to as a young boy. Together they enjoy spending holidays at their 18th century farmhouse in rural tidewater Virginia. They have three children; Caren, with Geico Insurance, Davis, a nuclear physicist, and Tim, with Merrill Lynch.

Derek’s personal interests include sailing, exploring the Sea of Abaco, computer graphics and cartography, woodworking, and skeet and target shooting.
