 Destination Eleuthera...

Let me begin by saying that I hope and trust that each and every one of you had a joyous and safe holiday season, celebrated in your own special way.

Well, more than in any starts of the last three years, January has started off with a bang!

As predicted the real estate markets around The Bahamas have been taking off, and all H.G. Christie’s offices have been extremely busy. For the first few weeks this year we have been taking contracts on millions of dollars of real estate.

Of particular interest and the island to watch in the Bahamas Real Estate market this year is Eleuthera. We believe that the reason for this is that over the past 10 years, Eleuthera had some hard breaks with investors who did not pan out on larger developments.

Because of this, in my opinion, the market for Eleuthera properties has been kept artificially low, while other islands like Exuma - with developments like the Four Seasons coming on stream - have seen real estate values double - in some cases triple - over the past five years. During the same period, real estate values on Eleuthera have been fairly steady with a slow rise, but nothing dramatic.

Investors and vacation buyers have noticed the value in an Eleuthera property. Brisk sales are presently taking place all across the board. The inventory of prime lots has rapidly dwindled, creating anticipation that there will be a solid appreciation of values in Eleuthera this year.

Another factor in the anticipated rise in Eleuthera's property values is the re-development of The Club Med site. It will return to its former glory days of French Leave, soon to be a super upscale boutique hotel with some stunning beach front villas for sale that can also be used in the rental pool. As a place to live, French Leave is one of the best in the Bahamas. For more information on purchasing, please contact me at John@HGChristie.com.

For the distinctive purchaser wishing the ultimate in privacy, we now have two new islands on the market. Bottle Cay, (HGChristie Listing 5217) one of the most beautiful islands in The Bahamas, is truly a standout. Lobster Cay (HGChristie Listing 3439), just recently sold, is now back on the market.

Other islands that have been extremely busy this January are Abaco, Exuma and New Providence, not to mention a steady stream of interest in Cat Island and some great sales in Grand Bahama.

And here at HGChristie, we too are preparing for the surge forward. Our offices and quality staff are growing at an unprecedented rate. I would also like to welcome Christine Wallace-Whitfield to the ranks of experienced brokers on our sales force. Christine will be working in our Grand Bahama office for a month or so, then will be moving to our Exuma office.

And that is January, but stay tuned. There is more news throughout this newsletter, and in the upcoming year. Meanwhile, the weather is great, cool and sunny and an opportune time to invest in The Bahamas. With the upswing in the US economy, more and more Americans, among others from the world over, discover the investment potential - and the delight - of owning property in The Bahamas.

Best regards,

John Christie, VP
