The prestigious award was presented during
the First Annual Bahamas Web Awards ceremony, which capped
off a year-round
effort measuring the best of Bahamas web sites, both in
design and functionality. The Christie site also received top
honours
in the Non-Tourism and the Best Programmer categories.
“We're very proud of our awards. As
a company, we have put a lot of time and energy into our website
and it is great to be recognized as the best in The
Bahamas,” said John Christie, Vice President of H.G. Christie, who was
on hand to accept the three honours on behalf of his company.
was chosen from a large number of Bahamian websites that included hotels,
banks, retail operations, tourist attractions, community,
and personal sites.
“What set the H.G. Christie site apart
from every other entry was its creativity, its very user-friendly
pages, easy navigation and the detailed information it provided, ” said
Duke Wells, founder of B2B and creator of the Bahamas Web Awards. “The
site also utilizes the most advanced features available on
the web today and as a result, it is a leader among real estate
websites.”
www.HGChristie.com, has proven to be pivotal
to the company’s
continued success at a time of sharply increased competition.
“Our website has become crucial to our business, and
it serves several key purposes,” Mr. Christie added. “Firstly,
we feel that its bright colours, many photos and the conversational
style of its writing gives people an accurate feel for the
culture of our islands. Secondly, it has a clean, simple layout
that is very user-friendly. Finally, we make sure to include
a large number of pictures for each property.
This is important,
because it allows potential clients to properly gauge whether
they’re really interested in a piece of real estate
before they take the trouble to go and visit it in person.
It saves
them time, and, as an added benefit, it saves our agents
time, too.”
A plethora of facts about The Bahamas was
also incorporated onto the site including purchasing guidelines,
financial
pages, and information about moving to the
islands, travel, special events, offshore investment and how to properly
set up a business in the country.
“We didn’t only want to offer
people quality listings, we also wanted them to feel welcome
and to let them know that we’re here to help,” said
Mr. Christie.
H. G. Christie was the first real estate
firm in the Bahamas to launch a website, in 1995, and the
first in the national
real estate industry to offer
a site
that is interactive.
“The Bahamas Web Awards were created
to recognize the strides that local companies have made with
their websites and to foster a greater appreciation
for the Internet in The Bahamas,” added Mr. Wells. “H.G.
Christie’s
site is an excellent example of how the Web can bring global exposure
to a local firm. They have obviously devoted a great deal of time to
creating
the
site and
even more time to keeping it current - both in terms of content and
features. This is the formula for building a successful website.”
